Ever got troubled with slow internet, even after being close to a WI-Fi router? SmartThings mesh Wifi is what you need. Samsung has partnered with Plume to release its smart mesh Wi-Fi network system, that can double down as a smartThings hub, to provide you high-speed internet all over your house, while providing you control over all smart home devices.
Launched on August 13th,2018, SmartThings Wifi is a powerful mesh Wi-Fi router, that provides whole home internet coverage, with no dead zones. It uses multiple access points to deliver fast and secure internet connection, by searching for most optimal and fastest channel, to avoid congestions. The AI-based network optimization, built by Plume, analyzes the environment, to optimize the wifi performance by intelligently allocating best bandwidth, optimal bands, fast and least congested frequency channel, to deliver a more reliable and efficient home WI-Fi experience.
“SmartThings Wifi is an intelligent solution that adapts to the many devices in the home, with mesh capability to eliminate coverage gaps, plus a built-in SmartThings Hub to easily monitor and control hundreds of compatible smart products.”
– SK Kim, Samsung Electronics America’s senior director
SmartThings single Wifi router can cover up to 1500 square feet, while a 3-pack can cover up to 4,600 square feet. If that is not enough for you, then can additionally add up to 32 more hubs, for extra coverage. Using Plume’s technology, the network can be intelligently optimized for multiple devices, so even if there are others in the network, it wouldn’t affect your network speed. It allocates more bandwidth to the device, which requires the most, by processing the historical data. Plume HomePass® feature allows the user to set up parental control over the network, setup usage limit, manage screen time, or give guest access for a limited time.
“Integrating our adaptive home Wi-Fi technology and a rich set of consumer features into SmartThings’ large, open ecosystem truly elevates the smart home experience.”
– Fahri Diner, co-founder, and CEO, Plume.
SmartThings Wifi also works as a smart hub for smartThings ecosystem, where it can control all other smart devices, including third-party devices and apps, like Philips light, Ecobee Switch +, Nest Thermostat etc. It works with both Google Assistant and Alexa, giving the whole system more flexibility. With the help of smartThings app, you can set up triggers, based on movement, temperature, time or receive alerts. Installation is simple, you just have to connect to smartThings app, and follow instructions, and it will take care of the rest.
SmartThings Wifi supports Bluetooth 4.1, ZigBee and Z-Wave, and requires Android(5+) or iOS(10+). It is powered by Qualcomm (Quad 710MHz) with 512mb RAM and 8GB off flash memory, and can deliver speed up to 866 Mbps for 5GHz, and 400 Mbps for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel. The device weighs 208gm, with the dimension of 4.72 x 4.72 x 1.16 inches. The SmartThings Wi-Fi 3-pack is priced at $279.99, whereas individual devices cost $119.99, and can be bought from the Samsung store.
